SPMArray2

sensL’s Position Sensitive / Multi-Anode Silicon Photomultiplier Array (SPMArray) is the first commercially available, solid-state, large array detector based on silicon photomultiplier technology. The SPMArray is an arrayed version of sensL’s novel Silicon Photomultiplier (SPM) pixels tiled together using flip chip technology on glass.

SPMArray2: Position sensitive silicon photomultiplier: 3 side glass tile

The performance and specification characteristics of each pixel are similar to sensL’s SPMMicro products. The device is sensitive to visible light in the range of 400nm to 850nm and suited to applications requiring direct light detection at these wavelengths or for radiation detection via scintillators.

The second generation of SPMArray has zero dead-space on three sides. The pixel-to-pixel spacing is 200μm within the 4×4 array. Meanwhile, only 100μm of dead-space remains around the outside edge of the array, thereby resulting in a total of 200μm spacing between pixels of neighboring arrays when units are tiled together. This allows for a linear Nx1 or Nx2 arrays to be seamlessly constructed.

The SPMArray is mounted onto a low profile plastic micro-block and includes a flexible printed circuit (FPC) cable connection through which the output signal of each pixel is addressed separately. This new generation of SPMArray connects to the preamplifier, power and control electronics via a shielded FPC cable. The cable allows the electronics to be located remotely from interference such as magnetic fields and radio frequency fields, and has 16 independent amplifier channels with differential outputs for readout. The pre-amplifier board has an output signal, power and control interface via a 53-way flat flexible cable (FFC). This facilitates access to individual pixels outputs or the summed output of all 16 preamplified pixel signals.  The outputs can easily be interfaced to the users own circuitry (sample, hold, A-to-D conversion etc.) or sensL can supply output boards for evaluation purposes. These output boards consist of SMAs to allow access to individual or summed outputs in addition with power regulation.

Whether your application requires a 1D array for spectrometry or a 2D array for large area detection and spatial sensitivity, the SPMArray is a novel detector solution and the ideal replacement for MCPs, Multi-Anode PMTs, APDs, and existing discrete SPM products.
